5 Quick Photo Fixes for a More Memorable Business

By Vanda Szabo of Vanda Szabo Photography

When you go networking, you might have several interesting conversations with new people.

Then you go home.

You look at your pile of business cards, scroll through your new digital connections and think:

“Now… who was the person I was talking to about that thing?”

And this is exactly why your business photos matter.

Your photo isn’t just there to make your website look nice.

It helps people recognise you, remember you and connect your face with your business.

Here are 5 quick updates you can make to become more memorable with your business photos:

  1. Print physical business cards with your picture on it

I genuinely believe physical business cards are still incredibly powerful.

At a networking event, you might meet 10, 20 or even more people.

A few days later, you may not remember every name.

But when you pick up a business card and see the person’s face, you have a much better chance of remembering the conversation you had with them.

A face gives your name context.

  1. Update your business directory profile photo

In networking communities like ours, we often browse the members’ directory before meetings, look people up after conversations, or check someone’s profile when considering a collaboration. In those few seconds, a photo quietly answers some important questions:

Do they look approachable?

Do they seem confident in what they do?

Would I feel comfortable starting a conversation with them?

A strong profile photo shapes first impressions long before any words are exchanged.

Your profile photo is often one of the first impressions people get of you.

Make sure your photo is:

Well lit, clear and in focus
Recent and an actual photo of you, not a logo or a cropped group photo
Looking straight into the camera
Showing your personality

  1. Add — or update — your email signature photo

If your email signature doesn’t include a photo, consider adding one.

And if it does, check how old that photo is.

Every time you send an email, you have an opportunity to build recognition, familiarity and trust over time.

Seeing your face helps people feel like they’re communicating with a real person, rather than a faceless business.

Once someone stopped me at an exhibition because we’d been emailing beforehand and they recognised me instantly from my email signature photo. We had never met in person before, but my photo had already introduced me.

  1. Update your Google Business Profile photo

When someone hears about your business, one of the first things they might do is Google you. What do they see?

Make sure the photos on your Google Business Profile reflect who you are now.

Not you from five years ago.

Not a blurry selfie.

Not a photo where you’re standing in a group and people have to guess which one you are.

Your Google profile is another opportunity to create recognition before someone ever contacts you.

  1. Use a professional headshot when you’re a guest expert

Have you been invited onto a podcast, to speak at an event, run a workshop or take part in a collaboration?

You’ll often be asked for a photo.

Use a professional, current headshot rather than a cropped holiday photo or an old selfie.

Your photo may be used in event promotions, podcast artwork, social media posts, websites or programmes — often before people ever hear you speak or meet you.

A professional headshot helps create trust, credibility and professionalism and makes it easier for people to connect your face with your name and expertise.

Have one ready to go.

Today have a quick look at the places people might find you. Are your photos helping people remember you or perhaps it’s time for an update? Reach out if you need help.
